Saturday the 23th of September 2017 will see the running of the 2nd Go for Broke charity ride. A 180km one day challenge from Berowra in Sydney to Broke in the Hunter Valley.
Depression and anxiety is on the rise. 1 in 5 Australians have suffered or are currently a sufferer. You can’t just cure depression. It has to be managed with help, support and love given by those around sufferers of this debilitating disease. Here at Go for Broke we want to promote how cycling and cycling with friends makes a difference. For both guys and girls, young and old, from whatever walk of life you’re from, we want to share how riding through exercise and riding with mates can help us beat depression.
Go for Broke (GFB) is a not-for-profit organisation and with the support of Lifeline Harbour, is dedicated to raising funds and awareness about the benefits of exercise and group riding to combat depression. Many people aren’t aware that cycling is a great team activity that builds friendships and support. The founding member, Ed Kirk have had personal experience with depression and the benefits that cycling has had on friends and family that has led them to establish
Go for Broke. As well as sponsors, each rider will be asked to raise money for Beyond Blue. The entry fee will include a GFB jersey with the individual who raises the most donations being awarded the coveted Yellow Jersey at the start of the ride.
Background
Go for Broke is a one day endurance bike ride from Berowra in Northern Sydney to Broke in the Hunter Valley. It was created by a group of cyclists and friends to help raise awareness and funds to fight mental health & depression. Our goal is to highlight the positive impact of exercise and camaraderie as part of the mix in treating the illness. We welcome men and women of all ages and the ride is fully supported to keep you safe and ensure you have a fantastic day out.
All funds raised by participants will support the critical work Lifeline – Harbour to Hawkesbury who provide frontline services in mental health, 24 hours a day, every day of the year.
