Seattle – Road Bike Rental – Mercer Island
48 km - 520m / 30mi - 1705 ft Daily Rides
- Region Americas
- Country United States
- City Seattle
This route runs south from Montlake along Lake Washington Blvd, across I-90 Bridge for a perimeter ride around Mercer Island, returning via I-90, Leschi, and Madison Park.
This is a scenic ride along Lake Washington’s western shore through quiet neighborhoods and small parks. There is an excellent viewpoint looking east towards the Cascade Mountains just before we head across the bridge to Mercer Island. Once on the island, we do a counter-clockwise loop around the perimeter, again offering many opportunities for stops at scenic viewpoints. There is a small downtown section where there are many coffee shops and food options. We return to the bike shop via essentially the same route, albeit with a side trip through Madison Park.
This is a moderate ride with a few hills – mostly rollers – and no steep climbs. The Mercer Island loop is a popular route among local cyclists as it features a relatively quiet, well-paved road through some beautiful neighborhoods.

Gary – SeattleGary loves leading rides. He's a Certified Ride Leader with the Cascade Bicycle Club of Washington and leads many rides throughout the year. He's also Ride Director for and co-lead of the Cascade Advanced Training Series (CATS), an annual training series that prepares riders for gran fondos. He's ridden the annual 200+ mile Seattle-to-Portland Bicycle Classic numerous times and a number of gran fondos. He knows all the best routes in the Seattle area and says the beauty of Seattle is that while you can do a lot of urban riding, it doesn’t take more than 20 minutes to find yourself riding along quiet, rural roads among farmlands and forests.
Tony – SeattleTony brings a broad spectrum of riding experience to his rides, from fast gran fondos with brisk pace lines to relaxed touring, go out for coffee rides with one or two of his bike buddies. He's ridden in all of the major Cascade Bicycle Club events over the years, RAMRODs, climbing camps in the Sierra Nevada, and bike commuting in city traffic in all-weather all year around. He clocks up an annual 3,000+ miles of outdoor riding and teaches indoor cycling twice a week, so he keeps his legs busy!
Linda – SeattleLinda is a Seattle native who describes herself as a social racer in road, track and cyclocross and is a member of the local racing club Egencia. She rides downtown during rush hour every day, so knows the local routes very well and is looking forward to sharing her extensive knowledge of the great riding in and around Seattle. A keen traveller she has bike toured around many countries in Europe, Holland, France and Italy as well as the warmer regions of the United States such as Arizona and Hawaii. A mechanical engineer by day, she is pretty handy at fixing any minor mechanicals on the bike, and has led many group rides, with a keen focus on safety.
Chris – SeattleChris packs a lot in his life but cycling is his main passion. He loves everything about riding from the challenging climbs in the Northwest, the views, photos, coffee & the chats. He enjoys riding year round, even though it is sometimes in the Seattle 'liquid sunshine'. He's as happy hammering it in the Gran Fondos & through the Pyrenees as he is on a lunchtime ride through Point Defiance Park, and he loves to check out new territory and rides. Apart from his passion for cycling he's a self confessed food and drink snob and loves to cook, he counts music, guitar and reading as his hobbies. In his spare time he manages to fit in some nordic skiing which leaves just a bit of space for his job, working with the Chinese on energy and environmental policy!
