- City Los Angeles
Topanga is situated in a canyon in the Santa Monica Mountains, just off the coastline. We include road bike hire in Los Angeles for this ride. Additional road bike hire durations and options are available by emailing us at info@GlobalCycleRides.com.
The area has a laid back, alternative vibe and it has been said that when you see the beautiful cliffs and trees and smell the air in Topanga your blood pressure lowers about five points… although that may not be the case when you are giving it your best up some of the hills on your bike!
The canyon roads wind and twist through the mountains, so the climbs are tough and the descents challenging, making it a popular route choice for the local cyclists. Via Santa Monica, past the city’s amusement pier, with its carousel and neon Ferris wheel, the ride rolls out on Pacific Highway 1 (towards Malibu) before turning right on to Topanga Canyon Blvd.
There is a tough climb up the canyon before heading out to Mulholland Highway. There are some technical descents, on quiet roads but riders should ride within their capabilities. We loop around on Mulholland before joining the Old Topanga Canyon Road climb back towards Topanga Canyon Road, and then descend back towards the Pacific Highway. The Pacific Coast Highway can be busy, but generally traffic is light on this route.

Paul – Los AngelesPaul is a Scotsman living in LA. Working in creative industries has seen him living (and riding) in some great locations including London, Houston and Den Haag. He‘s a Cat 1 mountain biker and has also road-raced for several years in the UK and US. He’s a veteran of classic rides such as The Etape du Tour and Marmotte in France, and Colorado’s Leadville. Paul’s other passion is filmmaking, so when he’s not riding up and down the beaches or hitting the Hollywood Hills and Topanga Canyon, he’s probably behind a camera or working with his production team. Paul is passionate about riding in Los Angeles, and he knows the best coffee stops for those early morning kick starts!
Jesse – Los AngelesJesse is a well travelled professional musician and free lance visual artist who enjoys a lifestyle catered to cycling! (Wouldn't we all want to say that!) Growing up in New England it was all about mountain biking but when he moved to San Francisco he fell in love with single speed and track bikes then road bikes. When he's not painting or playing music, you can find him wrenching on bikes, studying maps and climbing the canyons of Los Angeles. He prides himself on having fun and seeking adventure as a cyclist and now he is really keen to share his passion for showing cyclists new terrain and routes on the amazing roads and views in the city of LA.
