Ride Description

Road Bike Rental Paris – Vallée de Chevreuse

85 km - 900 m / 52 mi - 3000 ft - Weekend Ride - Saturday - Sunday

This ride starts in Malakoff, a suburb close to the centre of Paris. First we cross an urban area south of Paris but slowly, the cityscape becomes more rural and suddenly we are at the country side, with nice traditional houses and old churches.

We climb to the “Plateau de Saclay”, nothing difficult, and then we ride at a steady pace on a flat part to Chateaufort to enter the Regional Park of Vallée de Chevreuse. You cannot call yourself a Parisian cyclist if you’ve never been to Vallée de Chevreuse. Many of the roads there are often taken by Tour de France during the last stage to Paris.

We pass near the Jacques Anquetil monument and begin a nice descent stopping at the lights at the bottom! Right after, we climb to Magny les Hameaux, 1km in the wood, 5% the first of a few KOM opportunities.

We will cross the village of Le Mesnil Saint Denis, with its old church and its city hall in a nice castle and ride straight to the descent of “7 tournants” (7 curves). After carefully descending, we will ride a nice road going to Dampierre. There it is an opportunity to take a coffee near the castle & refill bottles.

Next to Dampierre we will climb the famous “17 tournants” (Paris – Nice 2012, TT stage), again, 1km.

Then, the route goes to Chevreuse, where we will see Château de la Madeleine. After a few km, we will climb back to the “Plateau de Saclay” on a quite steep short climb (700m, Villiers le Bâcle) and again, we could roll fast to Jouy en Josas where the last and longest climb is waiting for us: “L’homme mort”, 1.6km, 4%.

Then it’s back to Malakoff, on some large urban roads that do become quite busy with traffic at the end of the ride, but a small price to day for this amazing ride!

Ride Leaders

Philippe – Paris

Philippe came to cycling through his passion of renewing old racing bikes. His first Leleu bicycle restoration took him down a long cycling path! including long distance travels, races, triathlons and alleycats. Although his parents are Brazilian, he's a native Parisian and will be happy to show you Paris and it’s region from a two wheels perspective. He rides every day in Paris or in the countryside. When he's not on his bike, he work as a researcher in economics and statistics. He also studied philosophy and is still very passionate about it. As a good Brazilian he's an avid football fan, and an absolute fan of Arsenal FC. Fluent in six languages, he is looking forward to cycling with riders from around the world.

Gaetan – Paris

Gaetan comes from a family of cyclists who shared their passion for cycling and he is from the North of France - a great region for cycling. He started road cycling in 2011 joining a club where some members had run the Tour of Flanders and Paris Roubaix in the 70s. After moving to Paris four years ago, he enrolled at the Paris Olympic Cyclist and is still licenced. He ran every weekend in 2013-2014, but has eased up a bit since 2015 and enjoying time to explore new areas for cycling. He has also actively participated in the fixed gear community in Lille from 2010 to 2013 and has organized and won several Alleycats.

Mike – Paris

Mike is Irish but has lived in France for 25 years near the champagne city of Reims, moving to Paris 8 years ago where he teaches civil engineering. He has had an impressive cycling career, starting as an under 16 and moving up to senior elite. He's ridden a few international races as a junior and senior,& loved stage races. Now his children are older, he's finding more time to get back on the bike and keep in shape. He loves the outdoors, discovering places and meeting people.  His spare time is taken up by visiting the wonderful cultural highlights of Paris with his wife.
