Yorkshire can rightly herald itself as one of the top cycling destinations in Europe. Not only did the visit of the Tour de France exhibit the amazing roads, climbs and scenery of the region, it has now been chosen to host the World Road Cycling Championships in 2019. There’s no better time to come cycling in Yorkshire and experience it for yourself!
This ride is a great taste of riding in the Yorkshire Dales featuring the beautiful Wharfe Valley and a scenic climb of Skyreholme. Catch the train from Leeds to Ilkley and start the ride in the heart of the Yorkshire countryside on the route of the 2017 Tour de Yorkshire.
You will pass Bolton Abbey, a 12th century abbey, before the valley narrows and exhibits its true character and beauty. After 12 miles comes the testing climb of Skyreholme which winds up a secluded valley rewarding you stunning views of Simons Seat to your right. A section on the 2016 Tour de Yorkshire route then takes you back into the Wharfe Valley at Grassington for the undulating valley road back to Ilkley.
