This ride is takes in the main icons of Canberra showing off the planned city design of Walter Burley Griffin. The classic picture of Canberra is from Mt.Ainslie down ANZAC Parade, across the lake to Parliament House with snow-capped mountains in the distance. This ride will take you up Mount Ainslie that deceptively starts with a gentle gradient, but slowly pitches up and up. Enjoy awesome views from the top while you catch your breath. We then ride to the National War Memorial and down the length of ANZAC Parade to Lake Burley Griffin. We skirt the lake before ascending Black Mountain with the impressive Telstra Tower always looming above on this ascent. The views from the top again reveal the planned city. Water and toilets are available here after 9am. The descent is thrilling. We then retract our route and cross the lake and head directly up to Parliament House. If time permits, we can detour through the Parliamentary Triangle past the National Library, Questacon, the High Court, the National Gallery, the National Portrait Gallery and Old Parliament House. We skirt Australia’s national flag and head up Red Hill for more view of our national capital. We head through the cafe, shopping and restaurant district of Manuka and then past a potential coffee stop at Kingston Foreshore before returning.

Andre – CanberraWith a last name like “Wheeley”, how could he not be a cyclist! André has ridden bikes since he was a boy, has always been a dedicated bike commuter, was into mountain biking early on, and has been accused by his mates of “going the full roadie” and “turning to the Dark Side” by taking up bunch riding. He loves meeting new people and when cycling always gives a wave and says a 'G'day' to other cyclists. He has competed in many road and MTB races, but loves the social side of cycling. He loves sharing his passion for cycling with others and has led many rides, both road and mountain biking. He's the 'social glue' in ride situations and loves the post ride coffee almost as much as the ride! and regularly organises local rides with friends and family. His longest ride was 400 km over 30 hours on a MTB from Canberra to the coast and back.
Anthony – CanberraAnthony has been riding bikes since he was able to walk, but has only recently taken up riding bikes to the point that he can’t walk. Motivated by the challenge of clocking up ridiculous kilometres both horizontal and vertical, Anthony has completed a number of iconic cycling challenges [Neverest 2017 (9000 vertical metres up Mt Ainslie, ACT), Audax Alpine Classic (320 km 2017, 240 km 2016), Fitz’s Challenge (250km 2016, 210 km 2015), Scott 24h MTB (2015 – 2nd Male teams of Four)]. However, most of the time he just loves getting out on the bike and having a good chat and a good roll-around, while maybe testing the lungs and legs over a couple of choice Strava segments. A Canberran for a few years now, Anthony knows well the roads and coffee shops of the scenic Canberra region.
