Ride Description

Ride Description

Our Calgary rides start in Cochrane, 18kms out of town, but it is well worth the effort to get there, because it has some of the best rides in Calgary!

This particular ride gives glorious continual views of the Rockies, taking in the picturesque Springbank residential area before heading out to the world famous Hamlet of Bragg Creek. Bragg Creek’s beautiful scenery is the location for a number of films – test the ride leaders local knowledge on the ride & see if they know which ones!

The stunning views from Springbank include the local landmark, Moose Mountain 7,995 ft. (2,437 m) tall, so called because when viewed from Springbank it bears a striking resemblance to the head and back of a moose. You’ll be relieved to hear the ride doesn’t include a climb on this mountain! However it does include amazing views, roiling climbs and fast flats, excellent coffee & with a good shoulder all the way you will feel the clean air in your lungs on this great ride.

Big Hill Bears Paw is a great Calgary option for a shorter midweek workout.

Ride Leaders

Simon – Calgary

Since moving to Canada 6 years ago from the UK Simon now lives in a small cowboy town West of Calgary. A mountain biker since forever he started road biking 3 years ago. He rides approx. 10,000 kmns a year & just between us, Simon is a little bit obsessed about road riding. He starts his first season of racing in 2016 at the tender age of 43! Outside of cycling Simon loves to snowboard & hike, thankfully his family are forever supportive of the crazy amount of time he cycles! He also has to fit in work.. but as he loves being a Calgary Police Officer, it’s not too much of a hardship. He is as passionate about cycling as he is about his home town and is looking forward to an opportunity to ride with visitors from around the world.

Jason – Calgary

Jason’s affection for the bicycle started at an early age, but he was really hooked after training for and competing in the Trans Rockies Challenge in 2007. Since then, his mountain and road bikes have taken him throughout the Eastern slopes of the Rockies, across the province of British Columbia and on previously un-ridden, back country trails in Eastern Tibet. Although his four girls keep him busy, he’s always eager to share the routes, scenery and suffering the Calgary area has to offer fellow-cyclists. He is a passionate, recreational cyclist both on and off the road. The area he lives and cycles in has much to offer in terms of challenge, variety and beauty, he thinks of it as a privilege to introduce visiting cyclists to some of it.

Theo – Calgary

Theo is an avid rider and has been cycling since he was 4 years old! He enjoys being out in the Calgary fresh air either in a peloton or riding solo. He has lived and ridden in Calgary since 1981 and is very familiar with the many great rides in and around the city. His preferred routes include those that have a lot of downhill segments with strong tailwinds! Riding in Fondo’s and charity events has also been a part of his riding history and in 2013 he participated in the Tour for Kids Cancer ride, covering 420 kms in three days - an awesome achievement. When not riding in the great outdoors Theo loves to participate and teach spin classes so it seems he likes to suffer pain cycling both inside & out!
