This ride is an excellent combination of some of the highlights of Brisbane riding – a scenic ride along the river and some testing mountain climbs! The ride begins in the centre of Brisbane Ride with an easy ride along the river to stretch the legs, before heading out on the approach to Mount Coot-tha.
Mt Coot-tha is a closed circuit loop which you can ride from either direction – backside or front-side. This heart pumping ride rewards with amazing views of the city or the morning sunrise. The Mt Coot-tha circuit includes the challenging ‘coot-tha back’ segment which is a 2.2 km climb averaging around 9%. After traversing the mountain top and taking in the view, you’ll then get to appreciate the exhilarating descent but take caution and beware the 50kph speed limit. It is a popular route with local cyclists for cycle hill training, so is a great opportunity to ramp up your hill training.
The river loop incorporates many strava segments including a bit of a speed test on the ‘Full Corso’ followed by the short and sharp climb up ‘Deadmans Full Gas’.

Jan – BrisbaneJan was born and raised in the cycling heartland - the Netherlands, where he took part in the famous 100km Amstel Gold Race numerous times. Although a relative newcomer to Brisbane he has very quickly become familiar with all the cycling opportunities it provides! He is very keen to meet new travellers and help them also explore the beauty of the city and it's surrounds. Since arriving in Brisbane he has participated in the Brisbane2GoldCoast 100km ride, along with thousands of other keen riders and averages around 200 km per week. The River Loop in Brisbane is a particular favourite - a safe but interesting city ride. Although cycling is a key focus, he is also a veteran Korfball player and has coached several National Teams.
Rick – BrisbaneRick started serious biking as a triathlete in Calgary Canada back in 1983. He owned a stable of bikes to commute and train year round – even in the snow. Rick relocated to sunny Brisbane in 1997 and soon became a mad mountain biker exploring the hills west of Brisbane and competing in cross country endurance races. When he isn’t cycling, Rick makes a living as a chemical engineer in the mineral, oil and energy industries. He has combined work stints in Colorado, Utah and Germany with his love of mountain biking. Back in Brisbane, he is a daily road bike commuter and weekend mountain biker. Rick believes that the best way to see a new city is to take a guided bike tour. Rick hopes to show visitors the beautiful city of Brisbane while enjoying an invigorating bike ride.
Michael – BrisbaneMichael's been riding for a many years, commuting, touring, racing and enjoying time with friends. He's been fortunate to live in London and Amsterdam soaking up the cycling culture and some racing in the UK. Some of his highlights in cycling have been following the Vuelta Espana in 2012 watching the Tour of Flanders a few times and watching Cadel with the Tour from the Champs Elysees. An unforgettable moment for Michael was riding up the Muur van Geraardsbergen in a cyclo sportive with crowds cheering…gave him Goosebumps! Now that he has two small children and a business the travelling and racing is behind him for now. Cycling is now about the enjoyment and trying to get a few personal bests on Strava.
