Barcelona – Olympic Circuit
44km - 1,505m / 27mi - 4,937ft - Daily
- Region EMEA
- Country Spain
- City Barcelona
This ride takes place in the historic Olympic Ring at the Montjuïc Mountain right in the centre of Barcelona. The area is a well known training spot for local riders and thanks to vehicle speed limitations, it’s pretty low on traffic. Apart from it’s rich Olympic history, Montjuïc is famous for its views to the Port and City of Barcelona, the old Castle and for being used both for cycling and motor sport races, past and present. It figured in the 1973 and 1984 World Cycling Championships, as well as in the 1992 Olympics and is the annual backdrop for the final stage of the Volta a Catalonia, where the riders ride this loop 8 times back to back at the end of the stage. Feeling strong?
The roads are beautifully paved and apart from the loop itself, there’s plenty of sights to see along the way – the Castle, Catalan National Museum, Olympic Stadium, Miró Foundation and numerous gardens. Our experienced local ride leaders can point out the sights, offer hints and tips of how best to approach the circuit to get the most out of your ride and guide you through some of the less obvious turns and continuations.
This ride loops the 7,5 km circuit 6 times (out of the 8 the professional do at the Volta!) to clock 45 km and 1,500 meters elevation gain, which can be ridden in around 2 hrs based on an avg. speed of 24 km/h. Keep in mind that we stop at red lights so this is comprised in the average. speed.
It’s a ride that can be done CW or CCW according to traffic conditions, the gradients are similar on both ways of the hills; and some good Strava segments along the way.
